Why Do Some Patient Lifts Not Have Locking Casters?

If your patient lift does not come with locking casters, here is a little insight provided by our manufacturers to help you out:

Patient Lifts must be free to move and find a new center of gravity as the patient’s weight shifts. If the rear casters are locked when the patient is suspended by the lift, the lift cannot move and find a new center of gravity which creates the risk of the lift tipping over. The use of non-locking casters, in home environments, helps reduce this risk. Locking casters should be used by trained caregivers in an environment that requires locking.
